Moving to Australia is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming! The to-do list is insane. So, I’ve created what I first called a “reminder system”, a newsletter/email series that breaks down everything you need to do into easily actionable tasks. One task at a time!

That’s why I created Countdown to Australia, which I initially called a “reminder system” a step-by-step newsletter system that works through your to-do list. Each email gives you one actionable task at a time, with everything you need to complete it quickly and stress-free.

Whether it’s organising your TFN, setting up a bank account, or applying for Medicare, this system takes you through every stage of your move, before you leave and once you’re living in Australia. No guessing, no missed steps, just clear, practical guidance to save you time, make your move easier, and more organised.

Why Use This Moving to Australia Countdown

If you don’t know me well (editor JJ Smith), you might not know that I LOVE researching services and products, because I like to know I’m getting the best service for the best price possible!

Everything I recommend has been thoroughly researched and re-researched multiple times, as I’ve been doing this for a long time.

Editor’s Note: I’ve been working on this new resoruce/countdown/automation/information system for a while, and I really hope it helps you as much as I think it will!

Helping New Zealanders move to Australia is my job, and I love it. I honestly hope you enjoy this resource as much as I’ve enjoyed building it! Not only have I created this breakdown of what you need to do and when, but along the way, I’ve also improved the content of almost all posts on this site. Each post/task now clearly explains how to apply, where to apply, and what you need — so even if you don’t have time to go through the full series, you can be confident that all the content on the website is up-to-date and better than ever.

As this is a new resource, there are bound to be a few errors in the emails. I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know when you find one, my email will be included in each message.

One Task at a Time!

Get through your moving to Australia to-do list by completing my series of daily tasks. To make these tasks as easy to complete as possible, each one includes:

  • Task and description
  • Who needs to complete the task
  • Documents required
  • Links to complete the task
  • Why I recommend this service/company
  • Related content on my website
  • Referral partner info if applicable
  • Feedback section (for anything wrong with the task)
  • What tasks have been and what’s coming up

Please note, I haven’t scheduled any tasks on ‘move day’ because that’s enough to do for one day!

First Newsletter/Email

The first email will include a list of all the documents you need to organise (digital and printed), and when you need them (now or after you move), so it’s not overwhelming.

This way, you’ll have everything you need to complete each task ready to go!

Believe it or not, one of the most stressful parts of moving to Australia is all the forms and services you need to apply for and all the documents you need to do it! This is because you don’t have a history in Australia; you will only have a few of the options available. No Medicare card, no Australian driver’s licence, no utility bill with your name on it, etc.

Future Upgrades

Further down the track, I’ll be adding multiple to-do lists, for example, if it’s only you, or you and your family, a pensioner, or a trade, so you would only receive tasks relevant to your situation. For now, I’ve included a “who needs to complete this task” section in the content, so I can get this series out there now! And start testing it…

Sorry, but you’re my test subjects, and I’m really grateful that you like this resource enough to give it a go! What can you lose, right?

Love Your Input

I will have spelled something incorrectly or forgotten a service; no one’s perfect, but I’ve tried my best to include everything I can think of (17 years of experience). If I’ve missed something, please let me know. I genuinely appreciate any feedback you take the time to share.

If you have ideas or discover a service that should be included, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m a one-woman operation, and my visitors have always helped improve my content through their questions, comments, and feedback. So, join the Moving to Australia community and help each other, us Kiwis are pretty good at that, especially when we know better, haha!
